The weightlifting school has a rich history and a significant impact in the development of sport in Moldova. Established in the 1960s, this school has been a source of weightlifting promotion in the country since the beginning. With a team of professional coaches and an impressive track record of performance, the weightlifting department continues to be a center of excellence in the sport.

The head of the school is the coach of the national weightlifting team, Andrei Reuțchi, who made many contributions to the development of weightlifting in Moldova. With a team of 7 professional coaches, 3 of whom are licensed at European level, the school provides high quality training for young weightlifting enthusiasts.

The weightlifting section offers the opportunity for children from the age of 9 to sign up, but only after successfully passing the coach's selection process. Through this selection, the coaches evaluate both the physical fitness and the moral aspects and character of each potential athlete. This approach ensures that the athletes who enroll are dedicated and prepared to learn the basic techniques of weightlifting and develop the strength and power necessary to excel in the sport.

In the weightlifting section, the learning process is meticulous and well-structured, based on the principles of training specific to weightlifters.

The training process begins with a rigorous warm-up and muscle stretching to avoid injury. During the first two years of training, the main focus is on learning the basic techniques of weightlifting. Athletes learn how to properly execute specific movements for throwing the barbell, how to position their body, how to adjust their hands, how to control their breathing and more.

Once the basic technique is mastered, athletes begin to work on developing muscle strength and power. This involves intense training with dumbbells of various weights and specific exercises that target the muscle groups required for weightlifting.

Weightlifting coaches develop personalized training plans for each athlete based on their goals. These plans can include daily or weekly workouts with varying weights, repetitions, and specific volumes.

Our athletes achieved outstanding results at the World, European and Olympic Championships. The gold, silver and bronze medals won at these competitions show the commitment and skills of athletes and coaches. Among the most demonstrative:

    • Tudor Bratu - became the first Moldovan to win the gold medal at the World Youth Championship, Uzbekistan, 2021. He won three gold medals at the European Under 20 Championship in Albania in the 102 kg weight category. He won three gold medals at the European Youth Weightlifting Championship (Under-23), Bucharest, Romania and the Bronze Medal at the 2023 European Championship in Yerevan, reserved for seniors.
    • Eugen Bratan - bronze medalist for the 94 kg class at the 2007 European Weightlifting Championships in Strasbourg, France. 10th at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and 13th at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
    • Alexandru Bratan - competed twice at the Summer Olympics: 2000 and 2004. But he became known for winning the silver medal in the men's heavyweight division (105 kg) at the 2005 World Weightlifting Championships.

Thus, we promote participation in various local, national and international competitions, as it is an important part of the learning process and provides the opportunity to test one's skills and gain experience in competitive conditions.
